Hurricane season in South Florida runs June through November, and if you've lived in Palm Beach County for more than a year, you know how fast conditions can change. The time to find out your windows aren't sealed properly is not when a Category 2 is sitting 100 miles offshore.

The good news: most of the repairs that matter most before storm season are straightforward. You don't need a major renovation. You need a sharp eye and a reliable handyman who can knock these out before the first named storm forms.

Here are the five repairs worth prioritizing right now.

1. Check and reseal your windows and doors

Leaky windows and poorly sealed door frames are one of the most common sources of storm damage in South Florida homes — and one of the most overlooked. Water intrusion starts small and turns catastrophic fast once wind-driven rain is involved.

Walk the perimeter of every exterior door and window. Look for cracked or missing caulk, gaps between the frame and the wall, and weatherstripping that's brittle or compressed flat. If you can feel air moving through on a calm day, water will find that same path in a storm.

3. Clean and secure your gutters
